George Dunn, Jr., is the third generation in the family business to lead Heffron Company. George has successfully transformed Heffron Company into an industry leader throughout the Washington D.C. area.
His primary mission has been to uphold the intrinsic values that Heffron has maintained for more than 100 years.
George received his undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Notre Dame. He continued on to Georgia Institute of Technology to study mechanical engineering. From there, George completed the S.C.M.P (Small Company Management Program) at Harvard University.
Beyond Heffron, George channels his commitment to helping adults and children thrive into board service with the Children’s National Hospital Foundation and the Engineering Board of Directors for Notre Dame.

Colin Dunn has served as President of The Heffron Company for a decade and represents the fourth generation of his family to lead the company, founded in 1922. He is responsible for Heffron’s overall direction and strategy, leadership development, client relationships, and long-term growth.
Colin has worked with Heffron for more than 20 years, beginning with summers in high school working alongside field crews before joining the company full-time in 2010. Under his leadership, Heffron has experienced significant growth, expanded its capabilities, and strengthened its presence across the region. His focus remains on developing great people, building lasting client relationships, embracing innovation, and ensuring Heffron is positioned for continued success for generations to come.
Colin and his wife, Laurie, live outside Washington, D.C., with their two sons, Colin Jr. and Cannon.
Colin holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame with a focus on leadership and business ethics and an undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College.

As Vice President of the Service Department at Heffron Company, John Bloom provides strategic leadership for the division, overseeing the HVAC Service, Plumbing, Facilities, and Special Projects divisions while leading a team of more than 50 employees committed to delivering exceptional service throughout the region.
With more than 25 years of experience in the mechanical contracting and HVAC industry, John joined Heffron Company in 2007 and completed the Local 602 Apprenticeship Program in 2012 before serving as a commercial HVAC Service Technician. He later accepted the role of Controls Manager at Georgetown University, where he led the Energy Management Department and was responsible for campus wide building automation, controls, and the university’s campus energy metering program. Returning to Heffron, John advanced through the roles of Service Supervisor, Service Operations Manager, and Vice President, playing a key role in the continued growth and development of the Service Department.
Known for his hands on leadership style, John is dedicated to developing future leaders, strengthening Heffron’s culture, and driving continuous improvement through innovation and technology. He believes lasting partnerships are built by doing what is right, even when no one is watching, and by earning clients’ trust through responsive service, technical excellence, and a genuine commitment to their people, facilities, and mission. His passion is building an organization that develops leaders, strengthens client relationships, and serves future generations.

Vice President – Preconstruction, Design & Process Piping
A lifelong resident of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering. As Vice President, he leads Heffron Mechanical’s Preconstruction and Design Department, directing all aspects of project planning, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, value engineering, constructability analysis, and design-assist/design-build services. He also oversees the company’s Process Piping Department, driving the successful execution of complex process piping systems for biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory, and advanced manufacturing facilities.
With more than 14 years of experience in the mechanical construction industry, he has established himself as a trusted leader in the delivery of highly technical mechanical and process systems. His expertise spans the entire project lifecycle, partnering closely with owners, architects, engineers, and trade contractors from initial concept through final commissioning. By leveraging early design engagement, Building Information Modeling (BIM), prefabrication strategies, and integrated project delivery methodologies, he consistently helps clients optimize cost, schedule, constructability, and overall project performance.
Throughout his career, he has led the planning and execution of numerous large-scale life sciences, pharmaceutical, healthcare, research, and laboratory projects. His leadership played a pivotal role in the delivery of an award-winning facility recognized with the ISPE Facility of the Year (FOYA) Award, the Washington Building Congress (WBC) HVAC Craftsmanship Award, and ENR MidAtlantic’s Best Projects Award, honors that reflect a commitment to excellence, innovation, and quality.

Mike Hunke started with Heffron Company in March 2022, after gaining significant experience from holding senior finance leadership roles with KDB Mechanical, Gray & Son/Maryland Paving, Hydro Aluminum-Norsk Hydro, Lafarge North America and Aggregate Industries. Early on in his career, prior to entering the construction materials and mechanical contracting industries, he was a commercial loan officer at a regional Midwest bank focused heavily on Small Business Administration loan packages.
As a results-oriented individual, Mike’s passion lies in achieving continued success for a company and assisting others wherever he can.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration from North Dakota State University, where he continues to serve on the Business School’s Accounting and Information Services Advisory Board. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Phoenix. Mike is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant.

Steven joined Heffron in 2015 and became Sr. Vice President in 2020. He has over 25 years of experience in mechanical contracting. Steven is proud to work for an organization that recognizes the relationships we form are as important as the projects we build and that strives to do things the right way. He believes in the quality of our team and is passionate about supporting our team members’ progress in their careers.
Steven earned his associate’s degree in business administration from Montgomery College in 2001 before choosing to follow his passion for building and attending trade school. That same year he began his career as an apprentice steamfitter. In 2006 he completed the five-year training program through the UA Mechanical Trade School. He has since completed management and leadership training through Learning Journey, Inc., The Dale Carnegie Institute, The Center for Creative Leadership, and The MCAA Advanced Leadership Institute.
Prior to joining Heffron in 2015, Steven’s mechanical contracting experience included field and fabrication shop work as a steamfitter, as well as roles as BIM Coordinator, Estimator, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Project Executive, and Construction Executive. He worked on public- and private-sector mechanical projects ranging from two million to seventy-two million dollars. His work experience helps him to understand the unique challenges of our business and supports his efforts to serve our business partners and our team.
