At Heffron, our most important goal is to get all of our employees and workers home safely to their families. Safety is our greatest concern. Heffon performs about 400,000 person-hours annually, so it is of the utmost importance to us to create a culture of safety at all of our jobsites. We are constantly instilling the responsibility of a safe workplace into all of our employees. It is our duty and obligation and we take it very seriously.
Home from his World War I service as a sergeant, he started the company in the second story loft of the carriage house behind his family’s home at 12th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W. Washington, D.C. He built a strong company in the thriving 1920’s, strong enough to survive the lean years of the Great Depression and World War II. His daughter, Eileen, and her husband, George Dunn Sr., took over the business in 1946, proud to carry on the Heffron tradition of quality and craftsmanship.
Today, after 97 years in business, the integrity and dedication that earned Joseph Heffron the respect of architects, engineers, and builders throughout an earlier Washington are still Heffron’s hallmarks. Joseph Heffrons’s grandson, George Dunn Jr., continues to build on a strong family leadership and a highly trained professional staff to strengthen Heffron’s reputation for excellence.
